Register watch, August 2026

Each month we read the Building Commission NSW Register of building work orders in full and publish exactly what changed. Between 16 July and 14 August 2026 the register went from 135 published orders to 132: seven orders were added and ten were removed.

Added: seven orders, five buildings

Three of the seven new orders name the same company on the register: a Mount Hutton building in Lake Macquarie received a rectification order and a prohibition order on the same day, and the register records a stop work order at Terrigal on the Central Coast the week before. The Epping order names a large Sydney apartment developer. Each line links to the official register entry, which names the responsible parties and the works required; the register entry is the authoritative record of who each order concerns and why it was issued.

Removed: ten orders

Orders leave the register without a stated reason; removal usually follows compliance or replacement, and one of this month's removals was simply reissued three days later with a new date. The Lane Cove building shed two orders dating back to 2023, and Waterloo's George Street entry from March 2024 is gone. A removal is good news for a building, but the history matters when you are buying into it, which is why we keep it here. These orders no longer appear on the register; the dates shown are the original issue dates.

The bigger picture

Even with ten removals, 2026 remains the register's biggest year: 43 of the 132 published orders were issued this year, more than any full previous year. Our full analysis of the register, including the estimated 5,585 apartments at the addresses named, is here: the defect orders analysis.

Method: two complete reads of the public register (nsw.gov.au, CC BY 4.0), 16 July and 14 August 2026, compared entry by entry. An order on the register is a fact about the building's regulatory history, not a verdict on any individual apartment.
